Obituary: Bill Magness, April 29, 2014 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - May 9, 2014 Bill Magness, 81, of Blackwell, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2014. He was born on the family farm near Hylton, Texas, on July 23, 1932, to the late Jim and Beulah Magness. He served in the U. S. Army from 1953 -1955 after which he ran the lumberyard in Bronte, Texas, for a time until the death of his first wife, Gwen. He then spent the rest of his life farming and ranching on the family place near Hylton. He married Hazel James in 1972 and they continued to live at the ranch until his death. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughter, Jan Magness of Bronte and fiancé Jerome Hanna; daughter, Alanda Beatty and husband, Charlie; daughter, Vicky McCutchen and husband, Keith both of San Angelo; daughter, Bettye Halstead and husband, Dick of Waxahachie; daughter, Gina Chaney and husband, Robert of San Angelo; and son Billy Magness of Blackwell and fiancé, Rebecka Zemlock. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation was at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte all day Friday, May 2, with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm. Graveside service were held at the Hylton Cemetery Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 2 pm. Services were under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Charlie Beatty, Keith McCutchen, Robert Chaney, Dick Halstead, Jerome Hanna, Caleb Magness, Mason Magness, Ryan Chaney and Taylor Fuentes.
