It seems that Tom Flowers, Geo. Crecy, Jim Chandler and the deceased young man had met at the above named place and were spending, the time pleasantly, when Flowers begun searching in an old trunk for some tobacco. He found an old pistol, which he commenced to examine, and not being aware that it was loaded, accidentally discharged it, the ball entering the left side of young Owens and penetrating his heart. All four boys were the best of friends and sons of well- to-do farmers in this immediate vicinity. The inquest was held at 10 o’elock Sunday morning, the version being that deceased met his death accidentally at the hands of friends. Young Flowers immediately gave himself up and being unable to make bond was carried to Groesbeck to await his trial. The affair is deeply regretted by all.
