Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Donald Ray Barton (Died September 12, 2008) U.S. Veteran Funeral services for Mr. Donald Barton were held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 2:00p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Patrick Slack, Bro. Crawford Spraybary, and Bro. Bob Sullivan officiated. Interment followed the services at Dew Cemetery with an Honor Guard from the U.S. Navy and an escort from the Patriot Guard. Mr. Barton passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008, at his residence near Dew. He was a career Navy Sea Bees, the construction branch of the U.S. Navy responsible for building equipment, infrastructure, bridges, and numerous other tangibles. He also served during combat operations in Vietnam. Mr. Barton served his country for twenty-two years before retiring; five of those years were in the U.S. Air Force, and seventeen in the U.S. Navy. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his service to his country. Mr. Barton was a dedicated member of the First Assembly of God Church in Teague where he served as an Elder. He loved his church. He is survived by his wife of over forty-eight years, Louise (Myrt) Barton of Dew; two daughters, Sonya Jones & husband Buck of Teague and Jill Bounds & husband Gene of Dew; five grandchildren, Phillip Gaitan of Fairfield, Daniel Gaitan of Jacksonville, N.C., Brian Cox and Jillian Bounds both of Dew, and Kristen Copeland of Lanely; three great-granddaughters, Angel, Kylie, and Alexis; one sister, Pat McGee & husband Jerry of Point Enterprise; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his parents, Erma & John Quarles and one brother, Marvin Barton.
