Miles, Confederate Veteran and for many years a prominent citizen of Fairfield, Freestone County, died at the residence of his son, J. D. Miles at Powell on Sunday night, October 21st. Judge Miles was born in Lowndes County, Ala., Nov. 17, 1834, and had he lived to have the 17th of November, would have ben 83 years old. In 1855 he married Miss Ellen Day of Alabama and in 1859 they came to Texas, settling in Freestone County. In 1883 he moved to Navarro and settled at Powell. He, in a Fairfield Co., in the 7th Texas regiment, went into the Civil War at the first call and remainded util the last, coming home a Captain on Gen. Granbury's staff. At the close of the war he moved into Fairfield and took up life anew. He leaves two sons, J. D. Miles of Powell and Frank A. Miles, of Huntsville, his wife and two daughters having passed away some years since. He leaves many friends in every place in which he has lived to extend sympathy to his bereaved sons and grandchildren. Judge Miles was the last of four brothers who, (all but one who lost his life at '63) followed the Confederate Flag to the end. - ONE WHO LOVED HIM
