Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Daily Republic - Fairfield-Suisun, California - Sunday, Sep 8, 2013 Johnnie Dorwood Pullin Aug. 21, 1920 - Aug. 20, 2013 Johnnie Dorwood Pullin, a longtime Fairfield resident, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at home. He was 93 years old. Johnnie served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, retiring as chief petty officer earning medals for: Good Conduct Medal (7th award), American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. After retiring from the Navy, Johnnie and his wife Bessie were small-business owners of several service stations and a convenience store in Fairfield from 1961 through 1989. Johnnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, but he was most happy when spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Knight of Williams; sons and daughters-in-laws, Jim and Tanya Pullin and Jerry and Theresa Pullin, both of Fairfield. He is blessed to have 10 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Johnnie is survived by one sister, Fannie Lee Dugan of Frost, Texas. Johnnie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Bessie Lou Pullin; a son, Johnnie Pullin Jr.; five brothers and two sisters. Family and friends are invited to attend Johnnie’s memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield with a military burial to follow at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery. There will also be a reception following his burial at 231 Atlantic Ave., Fairfield. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his name be sent to NorthBay Hospice.
