Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [Hazel Jean (Roberts) Stroud] Fairfield Recorder December 30, 2010 HAZEL JEAN ROBERTS STROUD Funeral Services were held Wednesday at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton for Hazel Jean Roberts Stroud, 86, formerly of Fairfield who died Dec. 26 at Craig Methodist Retirement Community in Amarillo. Mrs. Stroud was born July 17, 1924 near Wills Point to James Berry and Sarah Belle Hay Roberts. She graduated Wills Point high school, attended North Texas University in Denton and graduated Henderson County Junior College Nursing School in Athens. Mrs. Stroud worked in hospitals in Athens, Bonham and Fairfield, and later became the activities director at Fairview Nursing Home and then Reunion Senior Citizens center, both in Fairfield. For many years she wrote a column, “Senior Happenings,” for The Fairfield Recorder. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield and sang in the choir and played the piano for the church extension Sunday school Class. In 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Randall. Mrs. Stroud was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings Pauline Roberts, Gladys Barnard, Edith Cooper, Glen Roberts, Ira Roberts, Carl Roberts, T.L. “Soupie” Roberts, and Troy Roberts. She is survived by son David and his wife Terrie of Amarillo and many nieces and nephews. Making arrangements was Eubank Funeral Home in Amarillo.
