Ross, retired businessman, farmer, and stockman of Kingston, died in a Greenville hospital at 6:10 PM Tuesday following a nine-month illness. Mr. Ross, 80, was the son of the late D. Sanderson Ross and Ann Skinner Ross. He was a life-long citizen of Hunt County where he was born May 10, 1880 on a farm near Kingston. Moving to Kingston in early manhood, he received his education in the Calhoun College, Kingston. Mr. Ross owned and operated a drug store in Kingston and later owned and operated a drug and grocery store combination. He served as Postmaster of Kingston for twenty years from 1915 to 1935. After retiring from business, he devoted his time to the farm. On August 16, 1917, Mr. Ross and the former Loura Cole were married. He had been a member of the Kingston Methodist Church since early manhood. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for fifty-eight years and held life membership in the Fred Ende Lodge of Greenville. He was also a member of the 50-Year Odd Fellows Club, Masonic Lodge, and Miller Lodge of Celeste. Funeral services were conducted at the Kingston Methodist Church at 2:30 PM Thursday with the Rev. Charles Garrett, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the McWright Cemetery. Survivors include his widow; four sons, William S. Ross, Jr., Paris, Charles R. Ross, Houston, James D. Ross, Beaumont, Ralph H. Ross, Eastland; thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. (August 26, 1960, The Celeste Courier)
