Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Conners of the church officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Ardmore, Okla., and lived in the Lonnie community of Childress County during her youth. She married James Clyde Smith in 1957 at Tucumcari, N.M. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Jimmy Smith of Eitigre, Venezuela, Shannon Smith of Lubbock, Shawn Smith of Calgary, Canada, and Joe Smith of Knox City; a daughter, Sharon Zapata of Lubbock; and 10 grandchildren. Kandance Venee Daniel PLAINVIEW - Kandance Venee Daniel, 20, died Monday, April 7, 1997, in Farmington, Ill. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in McAdoo Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Miss Daniel was born in Lubbock. She moved to Hale Center in 1990 and to Plainview in 1994. She was a student nurse in Farmington. She had played for several softball teams and was named Most Valuable Player for the World National ASC Women's Softball Tournament in Lubbock in 1995. She also was named to the all-state cast in one-act plays while attending school in Hale Center. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include her parents, Delton and Nita Daniel of Plainview; a brother, Dane Daniel of Plainview; and her grandfather, Roger Kingery of Grand Prairie. Anna Sue Arnold SILVERTON - Anna Sue Arnold, 73, of Floydada, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Silverton with the Rev. Jess Little, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by MyersLong Funeral Directors. Mrs. Arnold was born in Seymour and moved to Olton in 1940. She had lived in Floyd County for the past 10 years. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, John; two brothers, James Breland of Dumas and Bernard Breland of Paris, Texas; and two stepdaughters, Margie Grady of Kennedy and Pat Pierson of Amarillo. Buddy Brown SUNRAY - Buddy Brown, 34, died Monday, April 7, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Sunray Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Hilton, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Woody, pastor of Southside Baptist Church of Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Brown was born in Dumas and had been a lifetime Sunray resident. He was a 1981 graduate of Sunray High School. He worked in the shipping department at Continental Carbon. He was an EMT and a volunteer for the Sunray Fire Department. He married Konda Perkins in 1982 at Childress. He was a member of Sunray Baptist Church and was on the building grounds committee of the church. He also was a 32nd degree Mason with the Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 and the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Shauna Brown of the home; a son, Thrice Brown of the home; his mother, Bobbie Brown of Dumas; a brother, Max Brown of Sunray; and three sisters, Jackie Hammett of Amarillo, Jo Ann Wren of Dumas and Glenn Doris Byrley of Virginia Beach, Va. Amarillo Salvador Rendon Sr. Salvador Rendon Sr., 70, of Amarillo, died Monday, April 7, 1997. Rosary was recited at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Laurence Cathedral. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Laurence Cathedral with the Rev. Patrick Hoffman and Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Rendon was born in Harlingen and moved to Amarillo in 1956. He had farmed while living in Harlingen and had worked for Joe Siegel Pipe and Steel for 26 years. He was an usher and a member at St. Laurence Cathedral. He was preceded in death by a son, Antonio Rendon. Survivors include his wife, Maria Luz; four daughters, Lupita Rendon of Colorado, and Teresa Ruiz, Mary Lou Valles and Alexandra Rendon, all of Amarillo; a son, Salvador Rendor Jr. of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Lydie O. Ray Lydie O. Ray, 101, of Fredericksburg, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Howard F.M. Childers of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Ray was born in Comanche County. She married Carl Ray in 1911 at Comanche. He died in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne E. Dorothy Josephine Podzemny Dorothy Josephine Podzemny, 70, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 9, 1997. She married Edgar Podzemny in 1948 at Clovis, N.M. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Eddie Podzemny of Amarillo, Richard Podzemny of Canadian and Mike Podzemny of Odessa; three sisters, Nellie Fultz of Dumas, Daisy Black of Amarillo and Mavis Ludwig of Corpus Christi; three brothers, Jewell May of Pampa, Kenneth May of Iowa and R.P. James Robert Hodshire James "Jim'' Robert Hodshire, 77, of 1110 Alta Vista St., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Martin Catholic Church by the Rev. Francis Crowe of the church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Hodshire was born in Russiaville, Ind. He was the valedictorian of the 1937 graduating class of Prairie High School in Sharpsville, Ind. He received an academic scholarship to Ball State Teachers College in Muncie, Ind. He withdrew from school in 1938 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940. He performed duties in the Aleutian Islands, Iran, France and England before retiring in 1966. He was the aircraft engine inspector for the Serv-Air organization at Sheppard Air Force Base until 1967 when he joined the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Organization in the Building Management Service. He had duties in Alexandria, La.; St. Louis; Muskogee, Okla.; and Amarillo. He left the VA system in 1979. Mr. Hodshire was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Gracie; three daughters, Carole S. McNeal of Gainesville, Ga., and Linda M. Bohannon and Ann H. Quintero, both of Lubbock; a half brother, Eugene Parks of Russiaville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be 1110 Alta Vista St. Freddie I. Crenshaw Freddie Imogene Crenshaw, 63, of Amarillo, died Monday, April 7, 1997. Services will be at noon Friday in Church of the Living God with the Rev. Raymond Witherspoon, pastor, and the Rev. Howard Romaine officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by WarfordWalker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Ms. Crenshaw was born in Bastrop and had been a resident of Amarillo for 37 years. She attended public school in Taylor. After graduating, she attended Amarillo College. She did some work in the San Antonio ISD. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Darrell Crenshaw of San Antonio and Michael Crenshaw of Hiram, Ga.; three daughters, Pam Johnson and Yolanda Mechelle Crenshaw, both of Killeen, and Regina Crenshaw of Amarillo; six brothers, Warren Jackson of Taylor, Donald Denmon of Los Angeles, and S.T. Jackson, Bennie Jackson, James Jackson and Maurice Jackson, all of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. The family will be at 1345 N.W. 14th Ave. S. Frank Barrett S. Frank Barrett, 71, of 5315 Fulton St., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Tom Lakey and the Rev. Wayne Reid officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by SchoolerGordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Barrett was born in Idabel, Okla. He served in the Navy from 1942 until 1946. He was stationed at Cavite, Luzon, Philippines. He married Bessie Mae Newman in 1949 at Amarillo. She died in 1996. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1986 as manager of the plant department. He had transferred from Amarillo to Monahans in 1961 and to Abilene in 1963 before transferring back to Amarillo. Mr. Barrett was a member of First Assembly of God and served as a deacon, teacher and member of the official board in both of Amarillo and Abilene. He was a past vice president and member of the board of directors of Lions International. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Organization and was a past president of the Abilene Telephone Pioneers Organization. He also was a member of the Tex-Pan Ramblers RV Club, the NCHA RV Club and the Windmill Sam RV Club. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Wayne Jones of Branson, Mo., Galen Frank Barrett of Amarillo and Milton Dean Barrett of Wichita Falls; a brother, Charles Barrett of Gunnison, Colo.; two sisters, Georgene Gibbins of Amarillo and Charline Jones of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4522 Harvard St. They request memorials be to the American Diabetes Association. Anita Shelton Anita Shelton, 45, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997. Ken Keller, associate pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mrs. Shelton was born in Shattuck, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1963. She worked for Dr. Joseph Batson and for Thrifty Nickel in sales for 10 years. She was a homemaker. She married James "Jimmy'' Shelton in 1988 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Stacy Craven of Plainview and Stephanie Rangel of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Elsewhere Col. Warren G. Cretney PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Col. Warren G. Cretney, USMC (Ret.), 63, died Friday, March 21, 1997, in Gainesville. Memorial services were Monday, March 24, in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Newton officiating. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home. Col. Cretney was born in Amarillo. After being commissioned by the Marine Corps and being designated a naval aviator, Col. Cretney served in a variety of assignments including being a presidential helicopter pilot of Eisenhower and Kennedy to serving in combat tours in Vietnam. After 30 years as a Marine officer and aviator, he retired to Panama City where he taught at a school for troubled youths. Survivors include his wife, Charmian Cretney; two sons, Gil Cretney of Hayward, Calif., and Matthew Cretney of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; a sister, Susan Tamblyn of Denver; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Crystal Cates SAN ANGELO - Crystal Cates, 24, died Monday, April 7, 1997, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Miss Cates was an honor graduate of Central High School and Texas A&M. She was in her second year of law school at Texas Tech University. Survivors include her parents, Alice Kay Cates and Don Cates of Midland; a sister, Brandie; and grandmothers, Kathrine Irby and Hazel Cates, both of San Angelo.
