Cole Richard S. Cole, 79, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Robert E. Field officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Cole was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Amarillo and lived here his entire life. His parents were B.R. Cole and Lucille Cole. He was a combat veteran of World War II, 14th Armored Division, and graduated from the University of Texas in 1950 with a degree in business administration. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Ruth Van Valkenburg, in September 1950, and the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary a few years ago. He joined his father in running B.R. Cole & Son Lumber Co. He spent his life as a building contractor, constructing hundreds of custom-built homes in Amarillo, Groom, Vega and elsewhere in the Texas Panhandle during a career that spanned four decades. Active in the Army Reserve for 30 years, he retired as a colonel in the Corps of Engineers. He commanded the Army Reserve School in Amarillo for many years. He was a graduate of and later a professor at the Army's prestigious Command & General Staff College. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher R. Cole in 2003. Survivors include his wife, and a son, Stephen Van Cole of Amarillo. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Capitol View Cemetery in Elmwood, Okla., by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Miss McDonald was born Sept. 30, 1959, in Beaver, Okla. She graduated from Texhoma High School in 1978. She had been a sales rep for Southwestern Bell Communications for 14 years. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward McDonald, and a nephew, Trent Pate. Survivors include her mother, Shirley McDonald of Texhoma, Okla.; a brother, Rusty McDonald and wife, Trecia, of Tyrone, Okla.; a sister, April Frittz of Texhoma; three nephews, Chet McDonald, who lived with her, Jeremy McDonald and Shane Pate; two nieces, Rebecca McDonald and Kristi McDonald; a great-niece, Rilee McDonald; and a special aunt, Marian Laubhan of Amarillo. George Chambers, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Channing, officiating. Burial will be in Channing Cemetery. Mrs. Garrison was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Romero. She was a homemaker. She was a Hartley County resident most of her life. She loved to cook, and everyone was always welcome in her home at her table. She married Y.C. "Red" Garrison on Sept. 24, 1947, in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 29, 1997; and a son, John Garrison on June 5, 1960. Mrs. Gonzales was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Shoemaker, N.M., the daughter of Fidel and Carmelita Baca. She married Amado Gonzales in 1932 at Trujillo, N.M. Mrs. Gonzales was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son; a daughter; and two sisters. "Fat" Jones, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Wheeler Church of Christ with Dr. Shawn Johnson, minister, and Tommy Seay of Cedar Park officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Jones was born April 20, 1921, in Wheeler to A.A. and Mary Scott Jones. He was a graduate of Wheeler High School in 1939 and had lived in Wheeler all his life, except for his time in the service and a few years before he retired. He married Ruby Ayres on Aug. 4, 1940, in Wheeler. He was manager of the Wheeler Gin for 25 years, worked for Beef Cattle Co. for five years and managed apartments in Texas and Colorado, until he retired and moved back to Wheeler in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy and spending some time on the USS Santa Fe. Mr. Jones was a member of Church of Christ and a former member of the Wheeler ISD board of trustees. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Arnold; a daughter, Marilyn Kay; a brother; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Tricia Richardson and Mary Murphy, both of Amarillo, and Brenda Sparlin of Wheeler; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She attended school at Iredell, where she was tennis champ of Bosque County. She married Walter C. Harris Jr. on July 2, 1939. She and her husband were childhood sweethearts. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1989. She was a Dumas resident since 1989 and a former Plainview resident for 30 years before moving to Amarillo. She was a bookkeeper. Mr. McCracken grew up in Amarillo, Texas, marrying, having two daughters and working for Bell Helicopter from 1968 to 1979. The family moved to Oklahoma City, where he had worked for General Motors for the past 26 years. Eddie was an active union member, serving as a union president one term during part of those years.
