Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Billy Nickell, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. McCune was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Loving to William and Emma Preston McCune. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served during World War II as a seaman on the USS Chipola in the Pacific. He married Veta Maxine Aston on June 7, 1946. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene in 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and later graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., with a master of science degree in chemistry. John taught in the Texas state school system for 33 years before retiring in 1991 from the Plainview Independent School District. His leisure activities included family, pets, traveling and gardening. His last trip was in May 2005, when he visited the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Maxine; three daughters, Janine Gayhardt and Brenda Shie, both of Amarillo, and Becky DeOrnellas of Columbia, Mo.; two sons, John McCune and Ron McCune, both of Austin; 10 grandchildren, Melinda, Renee, Jimmy, Steve, Katherine, Amy, Tammy, Sammy, Pamela and Karina; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Galen McCune of Fort Worth; and three sisters, Louise Clark of Lubbock and Imogene Davis and Norma Stark, both of Fort Worth. The family suggests memorials be to First Assembly of God Church of Amarillo, 6101 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barbara J. Stewart Barbara J. Stewart, 57, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with the Rev. Ken Keller of Holy Family Catholic Church of Nazareth officiating. Private family burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Mrs. Stewart married Roy Gayle Stewart on Nov. 8, 1969, in Pampa. She attended Texas Tech University and West Texas A&M University. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She spent a great deal of her life in service to others. She was a communion minister and took communion to the homebound and nursing home residents. She belonged to Our Lady Rosary Makers Society. During her lifetime, she made in excess of 4,000 rosaries, some of which were placed on the tomb of Padre Pio. She made many baby blankets for the Amarillo Agency for Women. She did volunteer work for St. Mary's Catholic Church, Amarillo Nursing Center, Country Club Manor, Good Samaritan Retirement Home, Downtown Women's Center, Morning Star Hotel, Red Cross, Tyler Street Resource Center, Samaritan's Outreach, Catholic Family Service, Amarillo Agency for Women and Angel Committee for AMHC and was secretary for AMHC. She related well to people, and everyone who knew her, loved her. Survivors include her husband; a sister, Carolyn Panger of Amarillo; and seven nieces and nephews. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Garretson was born Feb. 28, 1958, in New Brunswick, Canada, to Harry and Wilma Garretson. He wrote music and poems and enjoyed sports. Survivors include a brother, James Garretson of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evelyn Taylor Evelyn Taylor, 73, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005. Mrs. Taylor was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Butler, Okla., to Dennis Joiner and Billie Triplett Joiner. She married Lee Roy Taylor in Wellington in 1948. He preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Taylor had a great sense of humor and a zest for life. She was "Granny" to everyone. She was always there with a helping hand and a smile. "Granny" was there for her family. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting angels and people watching. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Langford of Amarillo and Kathy Nigh of Mountainburg, Ark.; three sons, Gary Taylor of Amarillo, Larry Taylor of Keyes, Okla., and Roy Joe Taylor of Wellington; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jack Warren Stanford Jack Warren Stanford, 88, of Amarillo died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Stanford was born in Amarillo and lived here all of his life. He attended Johnson Street School. He married Alene Covey in Amarillo on Jan. 10, 1936. Mr. Stanford served in the Navy and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He owned and operated Jack's Repair Service for more than 50 years. He had a strong love for his family and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; three brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Candy Groom. Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Conner and husband, A.R., and Vicki Lammert, all of Amarillo; a grandson, Jack Conner and wife, Suzy, of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren, Gregory Groom, Stephanie Groom, Nielsen Conner and Brysen Conner, all of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frankie Stanford of Amarillo; and his beloved dogs, Maggie and Charlie. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry "Rebel" Bumgarner Jerry "Rebel" Bumgarner, 61, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005. Mr. Bumgarner was born in Prescott, Ark., and lived most of his life in Amarillo. He attended Tascosa High School and Palo Duro High School. He married Judy Bybee in 1965 in Amarillo. He owned J&J Poultry and was a truck driver for R&C Truck Lines for 13 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Bumgarner; a brother, Ronnie Bumgarner Sr.; and a sister, Donna Kirby. Mr. Hoover was born Feb. 28, 1932, in Marienville, Pa. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1935. He married Mary Louise Chaffin on July 31, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. She preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1984. He later married Judy Walker on Jan. 7, 1994, in Pampa. He was the owner and operator of Triangle Well Service for more than 57 years. He also co-owned Pampa Water Disposal Well. He was a member of the Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF & AM, the El Paso Scottish Rite Consistory and the Khiva Shrine Temple of Amarillo. In 1984, he received a degree in theology. He was a Baptist. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Mabel Hoover; two brothers, Bart Hoover and Chuck Hoover; and a sister, June Marie Hoover Daggett. Survivors include his wife, Judy; two daughters, Deborah Hoover and Vickie Daley, both of Pampa; two grandchildren, Marcus Dwayne Hall and Carrie Louise Angel, both of Pampa; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Howard, Hunter Dwayne Hall and Jessica Lee Hall, all of Miami; two sisters, Mary Jean Mayfield of Levelland and Kathryn Bryant of Pampa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Crelia was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Eldorado, Okla. Lyndon married Sally Parsons on June 10, 1956, in Wellington. He was a member of the city council for 25 years and the Kiwanis Club. Lyndon served as a volunteer fireman. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Hankins and a brother, Rabran Crelia. Mr. Melvin was born Aug. 27, 1933, to Carl Edward Melvin and Virgie Music Melvin in Foss, Okla. He was superintendent of River Road School District from 1964 until 1976 and was business manager of Amarillo ISD from 1976 to 1987.
