All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** This is a 1944 obituary for Neva Parker Woodward: Abilene Settler Of 1883 Is Dead; Rites Set Here Mrs. Neva Parker Woodward, who came to Abilene as a child in 1883, died at four o'clock Thursday morning at Lubbock after an illness of two months. Funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. Geo. W. McDaniel, Eighth and Butternut streets in Abilene, conducted by Dr. T. S. Knox of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the family lot at the Abilene cemetery. Besides Mrs. McDaniel, another sister, Mrs. T. M. Willis of Abilene, survives, as does her husband, D. P. Woodward, to whom she was married in Abilene many years ago. Mrs. Woodward was the daughter of the late Major and Mrs. R. H. Parker, who had settled in the new town of Abilene in 1881. Major Parker had come ahead of the family and established a home here, being joined by them two years later. Neva Parker Woodward graduated from Abilene high school, was an active member of the Presbyterian church, a member of the Shakespeare Club during her residence here, and took a lifelong interest n music. She taught school for several years as a young woman and was active in the city's social life. Pall-bearers will be eight nephews - John T. Willis of Waco, Parker Willis of Wichita Falls, Grant and Tom Willis of Abilene; George W. McDaniel Jr. of Dallas, Julian McDaniel of Ballinger, Yancey and Robert McDaniel of Abilene.
