DRODDY, Elizabeth Carlisle, Refugio Timely Remarks, 2 Nov 1933:

Long-Time Resident of Refugio Dies Monday Following Operation -- Funeral and Burial
Here Tuesday

Refugio was shocked by the sudden passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Carlisle Droddy, who
died at the Woodsboro Hospital Monday morning at 6:40 o'clock. Death came quietly
to Mrs. Droddy, following an operation for an ailment from which she had suffered for
many years. At her bedside when the end came were her husband, S.A. Droddy, prominent
business man and long-time resident of Refugio; her children and other members of her
immediate family.

Mrs. Droddy was a native of Bee County, having been born at Papalote May 1, 1864, the
daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth Carlisle, pioneer settlers of this section. She was
69 years old at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. Droddy at Papalote on
May 1, 1882, and lived for several years following in Bandera County and other sections of
Southwest Texas, before coming to Refugio about 30 years ago, where they have made
their home since. A devoted mother, a kind and generous neighbor, Mrs. Droddy enjoyed a
wide circle of friends, and all Refugio mourns with her heart-broken husband and family
in the passing of this good woman.

Funeral services, attended by one of the largest assemblages of friends and neighbors ever
present on such an occasion here were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock at Our Lady
of Refuge Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Oberste saying the mass. In the church the...
was banked high with beautiful floral offerings, tokens of love and esteem from friends and
neighbors. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Droddy is survived by her husband; three sons, John and S.A. Droddy, Jr., of Refugio,
and Worth Droddy of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Willis of Odem, Texas; four brothers,
R. I. Carlisle of Papalote, J. H. Carlisle of Skidmore, W. W. Carlisle of Houston and L. E. Carlisle
of Refugio. Two other sisters, Mrs. Henry Kahn and Mrs. Molly Droddy, died some years ago.
Three grandchildren, Lester, Leonard and Dorse Droddy, of Refugio also survive. Among
out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. M. W. Thomason, Mr. and Mrs. Odelle
Owens and Mr. and Mrs. William Carlisle, all of Houston; Mrs. Kirkpatrick of Kerrville, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Carlisle of Papalote; Ray and Pete Kring of Corpus Christi, and Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Carlisle and Mrs. John Carlisle of Skidmore.
