Where We Are
Sterling County is located on the Edwards Plateau, east southeast of New Mexico. The county is named for W. S. Sterling,
who settled the area. The county seat is Sterling City, located in the northeastern quadrant of the county at the intersections of
Highways 163, 87 and 158.
The counties around us are, beginning in the northwest, Howard, Mitchell and Nolan to the north of us. Nolan doesn't actually share a border with us but it's less than 10 miles away. Coke and Tom Green are in the east. Because of it's odd shape, there is a 2 mile tall 'finger' of Tom Green below us and Irion is south of that. Reagan and Glasscock counties share our western border.
