Photographs
Do you have photographs of local people or places?Courthouse
Bosque has had four courthouses -1854, 1869, 1875, and 1886. Only the 1886 courthouse built of local limestone is still standing. A Romanesque Revival structure with a clock tower and peaked corner towers. WPA alterations in the mid- 1930s removed the original clock tower and altered many of the decorative elements (see photos). However, the building has been restored to it's original configuration during a 2007 renovation project.http://daddybobphotos.com/COURTHOUSES/TEXAS/Bosque_TX.html

Bosque County Courthouse in 1886.
In 1886, construction was completed on the third Bosque County Courthouse. It was built with local limestone. The
Courthouse was designed by J. J. Kane, a Fort Worth architect and is a National Register Property. In the mid-1930s,
the WPA altered the building by shaving the peaked corner towers and obliterated the original clock tower. The
decorative elements of this much altered Romanesque Revival structure were also removed or changed. It is located in
Meridian off Texas 6, at the intersection of Texas 22 and Main Streets.

William Lafayett Butler at old home place in Valley Mills, area of Butler Rd. and Butler Circle. My great
grandfather, William Lafayette Butler. This is taken in front of the old homeplace. I am told the area where my dad's
cousin David Butler and his wife live is on part of the original land Grandpa Butler owned. There is Butler Rd. and
Butler Circle named for my family. David and Sherry I believe are on Butler Rd. Across the street from that house, where
David's mom and dad, W. C. 'Ballie' and Kyle Butler, lived originally, is house sort of built into the hill. I am told
that was once part of the original Butler homestead and the house was originally an old rail car! It is in this area I

My father's father, a brother to Anna Catharine
Wilhelmine came to America first to Ill then Ark. He died when my father was only 7 years of age. There was not much
contact, in fact I believe none, after he died. My Grandmother was left with 4 boys to raise all under 9. We have
later found out that a sister came to Ohio and they were in contact, but again not after he died. After WWII we
recieved letters from relatives in Germany asking for help, food clothing etc. That was 38 years after my Grandfather
died. Those letter stayed stored then and after my grandmother died I was given the letters as I was interested in
Genealogy. Another 30 years had passed by the time I wrote letters to each of the addresses. Luck was on my side. I
recieved replies from all of them. So the contact with the German branch was finally made. After contacting them I
found that One brother, my Grandfather, and two sisters came to America, and two sisters and one brother stayed in
Germany. They had the name of the sister in Ohio and I managed to find descendants of her. But no one has come up with
the married name of the other sister.

The man standing in front of the white horses is Ole Grimland, some of his family is in the wagon. What I would
like the listers to do if they can is identfy where this photo was taken. The date on the building at the right is
1898. We thought it was in lampasas but that has been ruled out. Someone thought it might be meridan, another thought
Iredell. At one time Ole had a freight line between Clifton and Lampasas. Don't know if this has anything to do with
it. Also do you think any of the lister might have photo's of Norse in it hayday? I would love to see some of those.
Ole is standing by the horse and the children as well behaved, as children are, in the wagon. We assume this was
taken in Lampasas, as that is where the children were raised. This photo was found among a Great-Aunt photo after her
death.

HELM, Lena Snell - possibly wedding photo
I don't know when it was taken, but Lena was married in 1915 at the age of 21. I like to think that it may be her
wedding picture. Lena Mae Snell (10 Mar 1894-18 Feb 1994) was the 11th child of William Henry Snell and Margaret
Lucretia Mitchell. Lena was born in Turnersville, Coryell County, and sometime later the family moved to Clifton with
their nine surviving children. Lena married Ralph W. Helm in 1915 and stayed in Clifton for the rest of her life. The
Helms had no children. She was the only one in fhe family to attend college (think it was Texas PolyTech in Denton - will
check this out). She majored in music, and became organist of the First Methodist Church, a position she held until she
was 91. Lena died shortly before her 100th birthday and is buried next to Ralph Helm in Clifton Cemetery.

LOADER, Mary Minnie
I am curious about a photo of my g-grandmother, Mary Minnie LOADER, b. 1 Feb 1868, Iredell, Bosque Co, TX, daughter
of Thomas Fletcher LOADER & Lucinda Elizabeth MARTIN. Mary is sitting on a pony in front of a home or building,
constructed of concrete or concrete block (at least, the base or porch). Out of sight, on the porch, is a wicker rocker.
The foot of a man can be seen behind the pony, which was probably, her father. I am wondering if anyone knows any
buildings of this kind, in Bosque Co, at this time period. I appreciate any help.

This photo was taken in 1895, in Meridian. This was taken at a park located on what is now Hwy 144 highway to Walnut

granfather proposed to my grandmother. They were know to go with their families to this park. Notice the horse and
